Inspiration
The Gotham model is inspired by the Gotham font, designed by Tobias Frere-Jones for Hoefler & Frere-Jones in 2000, undoubtedly obtaining the top in the political propaganda campaign for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential elections. The idea on which Frere-Jones was based is linked to the old city signs placed on the entrance to the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal, creating a fresh and geometric character, essential and without frills.
Description
Biocetate: the frame is in Mazzucchelli M49 bioacetate, 100% recyclable and biodegradable, without chemical agglomerates to avoid allergic reactions and its natural origin is also revealed to the touch with a pleasant “warm and silky effect”.
Front frame: the design of the front intends to reproduce the fresh, geometric and essential lines of the font used by Obama, therefore a very “American” eyewear inspired by the iconic aviator teardrop eyewear with double bridge, so dear to Americans.
Temples: “sail” model, takes its name from the shape that resembles a rudder bar. The perforated “o” taken from the Good’s logo is reproduced at the end.
Anima (core): visible from the outside thanks to the transparency of the acetates and made to an exclusive Good’s design, it reproduces an inscription in relief – the Good’s playoff “the right way to look at things” – developed from right to left, like the lead lines produced from the ancient Linotype printing machine, invented in 1886, and defined by Thomas Edison as “the eighth wonder of the world”.
Curiosity
The idea on which Frere-Jones was based is linked to the old city signs. To define his font, he took thousands of photographs to capture those characters that were now wearing out under the snares of time.
